A password-protected directory or area is a folder which may be accessed when a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized people may see its content. This option could be used for the main folder of a specific website or just for a certain subfolder based upon your preferences. As an illustration, when you are creating a new website and you don't want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you need to limit the access to it altogether, and if you would like only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the website may be seen by anyone. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear if the login details the visitor inputs aren't correct. Even a direct link to a file won't work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a password-protected area will take merely a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites inside a cloud hosting account with us. You shall not need to do anything complicated - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it has to be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login credentials, there won't be a problem to create a number of different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this option is active. If you would like to turn off the security feature for any folder, you can disable it from the exact same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to secure any content which you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you'll not have to input any code at any time. You'll only have to choose one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the web hosting account and to select which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then input the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be ready. The protection will be switched on instantly, so anybody who tries to access the newly secured folder will have to type in the right login information. If various people should be able to access precisely the same content, you can create a separate username for each one.
