Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domain names or subdomains you've got in a hosting account allows you to forward it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain address it is being forwarded to. In this light, you cannot create a CNAME record to redirect your domain to a third-party company and keep a working email service with the first hosting provider. It is also important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it's generally confused with the A record of the domain name being forwarded. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain name you own through one provider to the servers of some other provider if you have created a site with the latter. That way, the website will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take you only a few clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this sort of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have set up a website using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.
